Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's success with non-violent activism, King had "for a long time...wanted to take a trip to India. With assistance from the Quaker group to make journey in April 1959. The trip to India affected King deepening his understanding of non-violent resistance and his commitment to America's struggle for Civil rights. In a radio address made during his final evening in India, King reflected, "Since being in India, I am more convinced than ever before that the method of non-violent resistance is the most potent weapon available to oppressed people in their struggle for Justice and Human Dignity".Another influence for King's non-violent method was Thoreau's essay on Civil Disobedience, which King read in his student days influenced by the idea of refusing to cooperate with an evil system. He also was greatly influenced by the works of Protestant theologians Reinhold Niebuhr and Paul Tillich, as well as Walter Rauschenbusch's Christianity and the Social Crisis. In his later career, King used the concept of "agape"(the deepest form of Christian love), which may have represented an influence of Paul Ramsey.Martin Luther King based his idea of non violence is six-stepsGather InformationEducate othersRemain CommittedPeacefully Negotiate Take Action PeacefullyReconcileWhile his Principles which were inspired from Mahatma Gandhi were Non-violence is a way of life for courageous people. MILEY CYRUSThe Disney star who played Hannah Montana in the popular show for pre-teens has grown up quite drastically, and against all expectations, makes no apologies for it. In her recent performance at the Europe Music Awards, she took out a joint from her bag and started smoking it on stage. There's a reason she got off scot-free for this seemingly offensive act of public obscenity -- the performance was in Amsterdam.
SNOOP DOGGThis is a rapper who has not only written songs about smoking weed - even other rappers have done that, and there's nothing too great about it since most songs make either overt or covert references marijuana. The reason Snoop Lion (a.k.a Snoop Dogg, a.k.a Calvin Broadus, Jr.) makes this list is because he is committed to the cause of legalizing marijuana as well. He has in fact invested in an app that delivers medical marijuana, called Eaze. Talk about dedication!
RIHANNARiri, as she is popularly known amongst her many admirers and fans, has never been shy about showing her appreciation for the medicinal plant, whether it be online or offline. Before she joined Instagram in 2011, she would often show her support for marijuana by wearing T-shirts that depicted it. And ever since she's joined the picture sharing website, she hardly confines herself at all when it comes to telling the world what she loves doing, regardless of what they say.
JOHN MAYERAfter he released his 2009 album Battle Studies, he attained a cult-like status for being one of the celebrities who smoked weed. The reason for it was a song called Who Says, whose lyrics read: Who says I can't get stoned Turn off the lights and the telephone/Me in my house alone Who says I can't get stoned.
OSHO'S DISCOURSE ON HIPPIES

Osho understood the philosophy of hippies and expressed it in his own lectures.
He spoke about how the hippie refuses to play the role of a yes-man. He believes in doing whatever he feels is right. It undoubtedly creates difficulties, but in a way the hippie can be called a sannyasin. Truly speaking, the sannyasin must have been a sort of a hippie at some time.
The perspective of hippies was quite dear to me. They say, "We would like to live like natural men and women, as we really are, without deceiving. We will practise neither deception nor hypocrisy. We know that our path will be strewn with troubles, but we would put up with all these and try to live as we are." If a hippie feels that he should tell somebody that he is becoming angry with him and feels like abusing him, he would go to him and quite plainly speak out his mind without any hesitation or reservation. He refuses to be a hypocrite and to don a smile on his lips while his heart feels like abusing. But as far as we are concerned our exterior is not the same as our inner feelings. We are harboring all sorts of hellish ideas within whereas our exterior betrays a completely different picture of us. Every man is, so to say, a personification of untruth. The hippies say: "We are as we are. We do not wish to obstruct our natural behavior. We do not wish to conceal anything."
A principle of the hippies is "natural living" to be as one is. But it is a terrible thing to be as one is. It is a terrible thing indeed, and almost unimaginably tough.
Another stand point of the hippie is the expansion of consciousness. Hippies seek how to expand their consciousness, and for this purpose make all sorts of experiments consuming ganja, opium, bhang, LSD, and even taking refuge in yoga and meditation. The law opposes it. As a matter of fact law takes up a cudgels against anything new the laws which were made back in the day are still enforced, not taking into account the changes that have taken place. The law condemns LSD as sin. Osho himself failed to understand how taking LSD is a sin. He believed it could take the mind to other higher planes of consciousness.

During his early days as Acharya Rajneesh, a correspondent asked Rajneesh for his "ten commandments". He noted that it was a difficult matter because he was against any kind of commandment, but "just for fun" listed the following:
1) Never obey anyone's command unless it is coming from within you.
2) There is no God other than life itself.
3) Truth is within you, do not search for it elsewhere.
4) Love is prayer.
5) To become a nothingness is the door to truth. Nothingness itself is the means, the goal and attainment.
6) Life is now and here.
7) Live wakefully.
8) Do not swim, float.
9) Die each moment so that you can be new each moment.
10) Do not search. That which is, is. Stop and see.
Years later, we got to know him as a guru whose philosophies changed our outlook towards the world, towards love and even sexuality. He created quiet a furor over the last part amongst conservative conformists; given their conformist bent of mind, it is no surprise, really, that they found Osho outrageous. Osho himself was never too shy to talk about sexuality, and perhaps for that reason, many people find him hard to digest.
He spent his time travelling across India and the world, spreading his ideas, gaining a huge fan following in the process. But he had to pay a price for trying to wake the people up from their slumber of ignorance. There were malignant charges and attempts to poison him. Like all courageous people, he powered through the accusations and continued his work: they did not deter his body or his spirit, and he continued his journey till it was the right time for him to leave this world.
About him they say, "Osho: Never Born, Never Died. Only Visited This Planet Earth Between December 11, 1931 and January 19, 1990."

In third grade, most kids rode a bike to school. Jobs got the combination to the bike locks of many of his classmates, and then one day he switched all the locks around. It took them until 10 clock at night to sort everything out.
He let a snake loose in the classroom and exploded a little bomb under his teacher, chair. Way to go, little Steve.
In High school, Jobs formed the Buck Fry club, which was notoriously known for its pranks. They painted a toilet seat gold, and cemented it on a planter.
They also invited the principal to breakfast on the roof above their cafeteria, where they had set up tables and chairs, and had hoisted a Volkswagen Beetle. On the roof.
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak together built a gadget called “blue boxes” which could make free phone calls, and was illegal to operate. Using this, they once called the pope, pretending to be Henry Kissinger, the then-President Richard Nixon, national security adviser. They were almost caught by the police for this.

“Stop killing each other man. Let’s just smoke a blunt.” – TupacOne of the most progressive and influential rappers to have ever lived, Tupac Shakur couldn’t have been more accurate. The notion that if people world over lit up a joint all at the same time there’d be world peace for ten minutes isn’t far off the point too.Ever since the onset of civilisation, man has looked for ways to get away from the humdrum of everyday life and the struggles to survive. Nothing has helped the cause more than recreational intoxication.Over the years, there have been substances sown and grown, cultivated and chemically synthesized, that have been used and abused in equal measure to get that altered state of consciousness. Many of these substances are banned in some countries, with cultivation and sale controlled strictly in almost all the others. Each of the various categories of substances affect our nervous system in different ways, and thus each of the ways we’re hit by a drug differs from the next.Let’s take our favourite, Marijuana. It is the flower of the Cannabis plant, and its main psychoactive constituent is Tetra Hydro Cannabinol, which attaches to the Cannabinoid receptors in the human body and alters cognition, also increasing Dopamine levels indirectly and producing the state we know better as the “high”. Typically, one gets there after “getting buzzed”, i.e. after taking a few drags from a joint or a hit from a pipe or bong, there is a slightly increased sensitivity about all the senses, although one can still go about their regular chores. Continue doing so, and you reach the stage wherein all your senses get heightened, and you know there’s something radically different about the colour of the walls or the lyrics of a song. Something you never thought of before comes streaming to your mind, your perspective broadens and you question things in a way you never did before..Congratulations!You’re high!!You can either choose to stop here, whereby you may even get energized doing mundane stuff and get intense cravings for some random delicacy. Or you can continue smoking up until you’re stoned and retire for the day.A similar pattern is followed when one consumes any of the Cannabis derivatives, i.e. the good old Hash (trichome of the plant), Bhaang (leaves and buds ground together) etc.A different mechanism of action is followed by Cocaine, which for all intents and purposes is a stronger stimulant, and by virtue of commonly being snorted, acts really fast (Bioavailability, or the amount of drug that effectively acts on the body, is only marginally lower for nasal route when compared to an injection to the veins). Once available in the system, the drug then acts by increasing amount of neurotransmitters in the brain, which gives the signature euphoric feeling that kicks in within seconds of snorting it (couple of minutes if taken through the oral route). This feeling is, by various accounts given by cocaine abusers, “the most powerful feeling in the world”, and it lasts for about fifteen minutes to half an hour. While in all its glory, one has great feelings of well-being and competence, and a raging libido, by more than a few accounts. The effects may wear off faster as the dependence on the drug increases gradually, principally the reason behind cocaine abuse being a cause of great concern. There are also the withdrawal symptoms to contend with, which cause most of the relapses for cocaine addicts.Crystal meth, in comparison, is a chemically synthesised product that is mostly smoked using a pipe. The way it works is slightly similar, although the high is usually more sustained. Also, the rush attained is attributed to higher dopamine levels, causing a huge increase in libido. The high stays for far longer than those caused by other “uppers”, up to many hours together. The whole crystal meth business in itself is addictive. Ask Walter White. He’d vouch for it!In complete contrast to the aforementioned drugs, Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, or LSD as its better known, is not addictive, and one of the more “high-profile drugs” in the stoner universe. It was made popular to the rest of the world by one Mr. Steve Jobs, who in his time as a college student experimented with pellets of the drug and claimed publically that tripping on acid was a “profound experience”. The drug gives the user visions of various colours and scenery, an impression of patterns emerging out of nothing, and a false sense of passage of time. An hour may feel like a few minutes, or many, many hours. The psychedelic effect is characterised by giving the user entirely different “trips”, depending on the environment and the mind set the user is already in. And particularly bad trips are reported to knock the daylights off of people, and making them stay away from the drug for life! There are many other combinations available, many of which are highly dangerous and addictive in nature. Users are well-advised to do their research and know what a drug does, before doing anything with the drug.

THE BEATLES
The Beatles, one of the famous British band which in the 1960s. The principal members were Paul McCartney (June 18, 1942), John Lennon (October 9, 1940), George Harrison (February 25, 1943- November 29, 2001) and Ringo Starr (July 7, 1940).

Lennon and McCartney performed together in 1957 in Liverpool, the duo grew out of shared enthusiasm for American rock and roll. Further they made few changes in their band and by the end of 1957 Harrison, lead guitarist and in 1960 Sutcliffe, a promising painter who brought into the band the Bohemian style. After assuming several names for the band like the Quarrymen, the Silver Beetles they finally arrived to the name The Beatles. In autumn 1961 Brian Epstein, a local Liverpool record store manager saw the band performing and fell in love with their work. Convinced with their work and commercial potential Epstein became their manager and preceded to the British music companies. Finally the band ended up winning a contract with Parlophone, a subsidiary of the giant EMI group of music labels. The man in charge of their career there in Parlophone in was George Martin who suggested to have a more polished drummer for their band and that’s how they chose Starr. George was a classically trained musician who from the very beginning put his stamp over the Beatles and suggested them the best to make their band the best. Throughout the summer and in the winters of 1963, the Beatles continued to rise in their fame in England by playing classic American rock and roll on a variety of BBC programs. The band lately got a lot of success and criticism as well but every coin has two phases, in the same way with fame comes success, responsibility and criticism. In 1966 the Beatles announced their retirement from public performing. More than a band of musician, the Beatles personify the minds of millions of people especially of young listeners, the joys of new counter culture hedonism and uninhibited experimentation; with music and with new ways of life. The band members experimented with drugs and also with exotic forms of meditation and yoga’s technique taught to them by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, guru from India. The Beatles reinvented the meaning of Rock and Roll in those years. The artists they admired were- Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly...they were widely recognised as a source of inspiration for the aspiring young rock musicians. The songs that Beatles wrote and recorded expanded the scope of genre they had inherited. But there are few things that we probably know about The Beatles are,
The band members officially broke up at the Disney World.
They even planned to start their own utopian community on Greek island.
The Beatles were the first to do the devil horn feature rock hand on an album cover
The Beatles have been named, among the 20th century most influential people.
The Beatles received 15 Ivor Novello Awards from British Academy of songwriters, composers and authors.
Hippie Culture and Beatles in 1962In 1962, the United States was shocked by a counterculture influence that permeated the mainstream, influencing popular music of that time and demanding the attention of media. Known as, The Summer of Love marked the influence of hippie on America. The hippie movement evolved from the Beatnik counterculture of the previous decade. The Beatles who were also known as the hipsters retreated the mainstream via their music. Like that of the hippies who would follow, they emphasised the importance of consciousness through the use of drugs. The term ‘hippie’ originally ‘the beats’ derogatory term of the hippie became nationally recognised in 1960s. The Beatles made an impact on history through their new style of music, remaining popular for so long. The Beatles were literally a turning point in history. All of their music from Abbey road to The White Album.
