BOB MARLEY: A REGGAE REVOLUTIONARY

Nesta Robert Marley, more popularly known as Bob Marley, was the man who changed reggae music with his simple but powerful words One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. Nesta Robert Marley, more popularly known as Bob Marley, was the man who changed reggae music with his simple but powerful words. The web of his intricate yet effortlessly composed music entrapped and captivated all of his listeners, and left them wanting to hear more. The man from the so called the Third World, with just the wealth of his voice and words of love, peace and equality, brought about a different era of music altogether. He was born to a black mother and an absentee white father on February 6, 1945, in an obscure village called Nine Miles in Jamaica. His father died when he was merely 10 years old, and at the age of 12, he moved with his mother to Trenchtown, Kingstown. It was here that he would form his first band, along with his childhood friend Neville Livingston or Bunny Wailer as he later came to be known. Their parents married each other, and Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer became official step-brothers as well as bandmates.Marley had already started recording songs under a local record producer Leslie Kong in 1962. His first song was called Judge Not. But after the release of that song he did not achieve as much success as he did in 1963, when along with Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh he recorded what would become the first song of The Wailers, called Simmer Down.Over the next several years, The Wailers would go on to enjoy moderate success with their singles, recorded under producer Lee Scratch Perry, and in 1972 they would release the first full length album of reggae music: Catch a Fire.  It was not only The Wailers  first complete album, but the first reggae album ever released, and it forever changed the way that reggae music was packaged and marketed. It has since become one of the most sold reggae albums of all time. This album, supporting tour in the UK and the US brought the band international stardom.Marley used his music not only as a tool to express himself, but also to speak on the behalf of the people whose voices nobody heard. Catch A Fire , for instance, had several politically charged songs, including Concrete Jungle, a song about urban poverty, and Slave Driver, a song that retrospectively looked at the present through past injustices. The Wailers next album Burnin  included songs like Get Up Stand Up , a blatant call out to everybody who was oppressed, asking them to fight for their place in the world. It also included I Shot the Sheriff , a song with heavy racist undertones: in it, the singer is wanted for having killed the deputy, but he claims he only  shot the sheriff , that too in self-defence.He would continue writing songs of political dissent and disaffection up until Survival, his second last recorded music album. Being a Rastafarian, his music had strains of religious fervour in them, and in tracks like Exodus  and Jammin  they could be heard at their peak. In fact, in songs like Forever Lovin  Jah and Zion Train, he directly quotes the Bible. His religious and political views often aligned, and one song can be interpreted in either way: Redemption Song, from his final studio album Uprising is often cited as an immensely religious and a deeply political song. Before his death in May 1981 of a cancer in his toe, Marley was awarded the Jamaican Order of Merit in February. This being Jamaica, fourth-highest civilian honour, has only been awarded to 24 people till date. The motto of this order is: He that does the truth comes into the light. And indeed Bob Marley not only did what was true, he also brought it to the forefront and made it a part of the public consciousness. He became the spokesman for Jamaica. The New York Times called him the most influential artist of the second half of the 20 Century, and the BBC chose One Love  as the Anthem of the Millennium. His song Zimbabwe  is often considered to be an unofficial national song.Bob Marley, career made an impact not only on the global scale of affecting changes in political order and creating ideas of liberation, but he also made a universal impact in the sense that the world is now changed as a result of his presence. Jack Healey, head of Human Rights Action Center, mentioned that Bob Marley is a symbol of freedom throughout the world. The Jamaican Prime Minister Edward Saega, on Bob Marley, funeral, delivered the final eulogy, and said:  “Such a man cannot be erased from the mind. He is part of the collective consciousness of the nation."And indeed, he has. He is now a part not only of the collective consciousness of Jamaica, but of the entire world, and resides posthumously in the hearts of everybody who listens to music.

Bob Marley once said he wanted to birth as many children outside his marriage with Rita Marley. There are reportedly several other children, with some estimations registering the count being as high as 20, although most of them have not been substantiated. Bob Marley not only accepted all of his children as his own, but also accepted several of Rita's children that he did not father. He was called "white boy" in his home town of Trenchtown, Jamaica, where he grew up. It was due as a result of this that he could develop his philosophy: "I’m not on the white man’s side, or the black man’s side. I’m on God’s side." This would later tie into his militant views regarding equal treatment of races, as well as a Pan-African philosophy. His name of his first record label 'Tuff Gong' is based on the nickname he earned as a teenager for his ability to defend himself in the ghetto. He converted to Rastafarianism in 1960's, and since then, did not cut his hair for religious reasons. He also became vegetarian in accordance with his religious views. He believed in smoking marijuana not only recreationally but also spiritually. He considered weed to be a spiritual sacrament. His compilation album Legend--the highest selling reggae album of all time--has spent 290 consecutive weeks, and 992 non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200. Respectively, that is 5½  years and over 19 years! He also has a blood-sucking parasite named after him. Paul Sikkel is such a Bob Marley fan that he decided to name a recently discovered parasite after the legendary reggae star. The parasite feeds on the blood of Caribbean fish and is called "Gnathia marleyi". He was shot in the chest in 1976. In a failed assassination attempt, 2 days before a concert promoting peace, Bob Marley, his wife and his manager were shot in his house. He did not let this deter him from performing, however, and still showed up at the concert as an act of defiance. Bob Marley was buried with his red Gibson guitar, a bible opened to Psalm 23, and bud of marijuana. Made opposing political rivals shake their hands.

CREATIVITY AND SMOKING IS ASSOCIATED WITH EACH OTHER

Well it is not surprising but most of the people who are associated with creative work are smokers. Usually an argument with smokers regarding their smoking and nicotine addiction turns up with a reply which states that it makes them feel fresh and more A Cliched question in everyone’s mind nowadays is how Smoking is associated with creativity?Well it is not surprising but most of the people who are associated with creative work are smokers. Usually an argument with smokers regarding their smoking and nicotine addiction turns up with a reply which states that it makes them feel fresh and more creative. Even in multinational companies they maintain a separate huge room especially for smoking which are very confidential. Well actually Cigarettes do not have relation with creativity. For all those notions that many people have in their mind that Cigarettes or Nicotine offer thoughts or generates new ideas to them; scientific fact is that Nicotine actually represses your nervous system which ultimately causes depression. There are many evidences that confirm the irrelevance of smoking for creativity. Like The Non Smoking Creatives, not all creative people are smokers, and they are still doing well at what they do. Rareness of Creativity, creativity is a rare thing to find, and if smoking has anything to do with creativity then we surely have loads and loads of creative minds among us.  We have many creative people among us, who are addicted to smoking and are doing really good let us take a look,‘Marijuana makes you lazy and stupid’ but there are some exceptions. People who use marijuana who are in fact well beyond the simple minded prohibition, perhaps these people are doing really good in their respective field.  Bill Gates  With the ability to leap a chair from a standing position, the man who has more money in his account than some countries have in their treasury. However, very few of us will deny that Microsoft workers are nerd. The man himself said once that people should be nice to nerds, as you never know one day you might work for one. It is said that he used Marijuana in his college life and even his support for weeds in Washington is not a secret to anyone.  Robert Downey Jr. Robert Downey started smoking weed at the age of 8. The nominee of Academy Award revealed that his father started giving him drugs when he was 8 years old. Downey Jr. Was out and in of jail and rehab through 1996 and 2001 during which he told the judge that it’s like he is having a loaded gun in his mouth and the his fingers are on the triggers.  Johnny Depp In 2004 he was caught for saying that it would be better if his kids would smoke pots and marijuana with him rather than going on the streets in getting into some nasty stuff. He believes that trying marijuana at home is better than trying it out with your friends.  Justin Beiber As per Justin it is just a perception, at the end of the day many people do not find it good. He said if people are not comfortable with smoking weed then he don’t wants to make them uncomfortable.  Though Justin was caught smoking many times in public places, even during his shoots. On being asked he said it is his zone and that is how he makes himself cool and makes himself cool.  Angelina Jolie 32 year old Angelina Jolie said ‘I have done coke, heroin, LSD etc’. According to sources Jolie was caught smoking and fighting with Brad Pitt. In fact she continued smoking after her cancer treatment, Angelina Jolie mother of 6 kids recently had a treatment for cancer according to which it will be dangerous if she continues smoking, but due to tensions between her and Brad Pitt she often smokes.

While he was playing with Cream, Eric Clapton was a very frequent user of LSD. When they were playing in San Francisco, which was home of the drug subculture in America, the entire band experimented with a lot of hallucinogenic drugs. Playing at the Fillmore Stadium, the band was given full leeway to play whatever they wanted, for however long they wanted since basically everybody else in the audience was tripping too. They explored their musicality at a much greater depth while being out of their minds. During one of the performances, Clapton was convinced that he could turn the audience into angels or devils according to the notes he played!   In 1970, Clapton found a dealer who would sell him as much cocaine as he wanted, as long as he bought a certain amount of smack, which is what heroin was called then. During his intense clandestine love affair with Pattie Boyd, when she would repeatedly tell him to leave her as she couldn’t possibly leave George Harrison, Clapton had started using heroin. At one point, he even threatened to start using heroin full time if she didn't leave George Harrison--but by that time, he already was a full-time heroin addict. It took him about 3 years to get clean, to achieve which he tried acupuncture, using an electrical stimulator attached to his ears. And right after he weaned himself off heroin, he started drinking too much.By 1974, Clapton had become a full time alcoholic. This impacted not only his performance on stage, but also had an adverse effect on his musical career as well. He would often not be able to play correctly, and even played an entire show lying on the stage, being too drunk to stand up. The audience didn’t mind, because they were drunk too. Alcohol proved to be the toughest substance to exclude from his life. Clapton first went to rehab in 1982, and after six weeks, was in a horrible state of mind. He relapsed soon enough, and it was only in 1987, when he went to rehab for the second time, that he was actually cured of alcoholism.

HERE'S WHAT YOU EAT WHEN THE MUNCHIES STRIKE| OUTONTRIP.COM

A look at food items like Chips, Chinese food, Pizza, Fries Peanuts, Chocolate cake and cookies which are perfect for staving off munchies cravings. 7 essential foods to fight off the Munch Monster One of the best things about smoking up is the near zero side effects. That is, if you discount the overwhelming need to bite, chew, and munch on food for hours on end despite not being hungry anymore. The next time you make plans to smoke up, here’s a list of essentials that you should stockpile to chow:   1. Uncle Chipps The best thing to do when you are craving to chomp on stuff – eat a packet of chips (or 5!) This may not be a very healthy kind of post-pot snacking, but it will get you there and fast. Even if you’re really craving food, a couple jumbo packets of Chips will do the trick. A huge packet of Uncle Chips works best for the munchies. The snack is an honest, classic salted flavour which reminds you of your childhood and simpler times. Plus, the packets are huge and cheap, which makes it the number one option in this list.      2. Chinese Food If you’re not too stoned out of your mind to function like a normal human being, go the nearest Chinese restaurant and ravish the buffet. It’s cheap, heaps of food, and perfect to satiate the Munch Monster. Even if you don’t want to make the effort to go out, order in! Specifically, order the Manchurian and Fried Rice with some of those Crispy Honey Potato things that nearly all Chinese restaurants now carry. That will fill you up fast, even with the Munchies. For pure greasiness, nothing can beat Chinese food and pure greasiness is exactly what you need right now! 3. Pizza 30 minute delivery is precisely what you need when you’re craving food like anything. Pizza is precisely what the doctor ordered and there are a huge number of varieties and outlets to choose from. To really satiate your munchies hunger, you need to go for the biggest, baddest pizza on the menu. Then, order it in Cheese Burst crust, top up your order with a couple of oregano Garlic breads and then tell the guy to double whatever you just told him. That should do it. 4. Fries If you like fast food and live near some place with a drive in or 24-hour delivery, French Fries are some of the best foods to munch on! They are very much like Chips in that they have a consistently great taste, they can be chomped on for hours at end, and most importantly, you can order them in huge quantities. They are not exactly a healthy snacking option when you’re going to eat a thousand of them, but I don’t think that would be on top of your list of priorities just then. 5. Peanuts If you are the sort of person who still cares a lot about their health, pot or no pot, here’s the healthy (and ridiculously cheap) option for your awesome trip. Jumbo bags of peanuts cost, well, peanuts, compared to most of the options on the list and they are just as satisfying to munch. Just pop in to your local supermarket before you smoke up and buy the largest bag you can find. Then get two of them, just in case. 6. Chocolate Cake     This is the recommendation that comes with a statutory warning. Not everyone is built to handle a sugar rush with a weed high. It can become too much for your senses, so be careful with this one. But if you are someone who loves the combination, Chocolate cake is the best option for you! The woman was Jayne Mansfield, and she was really coming on to him, one evening in November 1962. So much so that she had even pulled his hair, and asked him, 'Is it real?' That had done it for Lennon. He urinated into her drink and saw her sip it too, after which she called the drink a "humdinger".2.He was obsessed with the French actress Brigitte Bardot. He once even made his wife Cynthia look like her--he got her to bleach her hair blond and keep long curls. 3.T<strong>he first instrument he learnt to play was the accordion. Later he learnt the banjo, and then, as everybody knows, he learnt to play the guitar and the piano.4.He once said The Beatles were more popular than Jesus. This comment had a lot of backlash, and America's entire southern belt started protesting against the Beetles' music, and their music was not played on the radio any more. 5.He quit music to become a stay-at-home dad. This was for a period of about half a decade, after his daughter with Yoko Ono was born, whom they named Sean Lennon. This was for a period of about half a decade, after his daughter with Yoko Ono was born, whom they called Sean. 6.He staged a bed-in with Yoko Ono the night of their honeymoon, promoting World Peace. The media came into their hotel room, expecting them to be having sex. It didn't really work out that way, but Lennon and Ono got a lot of press coverage regardless.7.He hated the sound of his own voice. Talk about some irony!8.He struggled with weight issues after a journalist called him "The fat Beetle". It was most likely a casual (but deliberate remark) in a newspaper article, but Lennon took it to heart. 9.He has written books. 3 books! The first one was called In His Own Write, the second one was A Spaniard in the Works. And the third and final book to be released was called Skywriting by Word of Mouth.  10.He starred in a movie called 'How I won the War'. It would be the only movie he ever starred in as an actor, and it was a black comedy. 11.He used to love cats. Over the course of his life, he had more than 17 of them. One of his cats was called Elvis, while another pair of white and black cats were called, respectively, Pepper and Salt.

John Lennon was a musician who influenced and often changed the lives of the people who listened to his music. He was also a strong advocate of peace, and believed in all forms of equality. The thing is: everybody's already approached Lennon through the lens of his music, and his political views. Here we look at Lennon... literally. We just look at Lennon, tracking the various changes he underwent in his physical appearance as the years passed by. Some of these were inspired the drugs that he took, or by the women that he was with, while some looks came about as a result of John Lennon's pure eccentricity, his constant need to keep reinventing himself. In 1964, Lennon was clean shaven and had a short haircut--an image that would soon fade from the public consciousness. In 1965, he wore his hair out longer, showing a glimpse of what the future Lennon would look like. In 1967, the year of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, he grew a handlebar moustache, and kept sideburns. Later, he shaved off the moustache, and was often seen in ostentatious clothing. He also made the change to his iconic 'Lennon glasses' in this year. By 1969, Lennon had completed the transformation from Goody-Two-Shoes choirboy, influenced by skiffle bands to the Beatle who took LSD and sang songs about peace and acceptance. This is Lennon as he is most popularly remembered. And then in 1970, Lennon had become smooth shaven again, in an attempt to make more political statements, through his clothing, in collaboration with his wife Yoko Ono. By 1973, glimpses of the old Lennon could be seen again. And for the rest of his living days he would fluctuate between different lengths of hair, ending up ultimately with the length of hair he had in the earlier part of the 1970s...

He was a minister, a Poet, a Lover of words and freedom, a family man, a talented speaker, a seeker of truth and justice. He met every challenge he faced, and by the time he went to the lord he was already an American Icon, he was Martin Luther King Jr.No vocabulary really exists to describe what happened in San Francisco 50 years ago; like all spiritual visions, it took place in realms of the mind where conventions of words and logic were replaced by what seemed a newer, truer understanding of the world. The decade of the 60, in America was marked with great social changes. When you think of the 60 the hippies and the psychedelic lifestyles, the black civil rights movement, and music such as the British invasion come to mind. Integrate all these factors together and it forms the decade of the sixties in terms of society.Later in the 60, factors influencing counterculture were tensions between the average citizen and all symbols of authority. There were also many tensions on key issues such as civil rights, women,' rights, abortion, gay rights, and more. An issue which affected hippie culture was also the atrocities of the Vietnam War, which hippies strongly opposed. Hippies especially opposed the draft into the Vietnam War, believing that the war was wrong and that innocent Americans shouldn’t be forced to fight if doing so was against their moral principles. The liberal work of activists such as Martin Luther King Junior also spurred the hippie movement because it inspired people to stand up for what they believed in and be free to speak their mind and be themselves. Additionally, many also say that the hippie movement was influenced by the assassination of John F. Kennedy, a popular president whose tragic death fuelled the political and social unrest of the time.Being a Hippie Christian isn't how you dress or what you say as much as it is a total life style. To be a Hippie Christian requires an attitude of the heart that grows out of a personal encounter with the living Christ and overflows into your whole life. Jesus taught about peace and love. Jesus chose the outcasts, He loved the unlovely, and he reached out to the rejects. Jesus taught about getting back to the Garden, about having a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe.Though the man died on that day but his legacy was on. He lives on the heart off those who are like minded, Christ followers, seeking true equality not the fraudulent equality that puts one above another but a truly color blind equality and one that values each person as a child of god. And as his children of gods ourselves we must do all we can to make sure his dream is upheld and his legacy is not forgotten. That we may too join on the triumph to set ourselves free at last, thank god we all are free at last.
